Can't put it off any longer.  Friday morning we began the 4.5 mile hike to the rim (4000' higher), starting with the Cottonwood Trail to Horseshoe Mesa, which is in shade on the right.  This photo is looking down (north) Cottonwood Canyon.

One saving grace of the Cottonwood Trail was that we were in shade most of the way up.  This is just before we reached Horseshoe Mesa.
