The steeple of St. Joseph's Church in Willimantic was one of approximately 70 church steeples that were casualties of the 1938 Hurricane. There was also a famous series of pictures taken by John MacDonald of the First Congregational Church in Willimantic's steeple breaking. The photos were seen worldwide in Life Magazine.
