All of us can think of special individuals who always manage to find time to help other people. 14/WILI and the Mohegan Sun have a name for those special people. They are Connecticut's RAYS OF SUNSHINE, and together we're paying tribute to them. Hear acceptance interviews with many of our Ray of Sunshine winners by clicking here. The Current Ray of Sunshine is Kathy Pekarovic
Judy Sanborn with Kathy Pekarovic
Windham High School Day Care Provider Kathy Pekarovic is our latest Ray of Sunshine Award winner. Judy Sanborn's nomination letter said: I would like to nominate Kathy Pekarovic for the "Ray of Sunshine Award”. Kathy has been one of our day care providers for many years at Windham High. She works very hard with the young mothers to help them with the new adjustment of being a parent.
She also works tirelessly to organize fund raisers at the school. She was instrumental in having the four classes compete against each other to raise the most money they could for different charities. This was done in conjunction with a Channel 3 "Cool Schools” segment on Windham High which she helped to arrange. She has organized fund raising activities for many reasons…the wars, a family that has lost its home, natural disasters…you name it and she has probably organized the kids at the high school to help.
I think that not only does this assist the charity; it also benefits our students and our community. It helps them to see outside of themselves, to see that other people might need help, to learn to work together for a cause. It shows the community that our young population can make a difference.
